MASTERTON BOROUGH COUNCIL.
ORDINARY MEETING. The regular fortnightly meeting of tlio Masterton Borough Council, was hold last evening Present—- % His Worship the Mayor and Crs , Mutrie, Wagg, Cnllen, Foist and Perry, MINUTES. The minutes of tlio previous meeting were read and confirmed, VXSATB IJIiIUOE, A number of residents wroto re the unsafe state of a bridge in Villastreet; The matter was roforrcd to the Works Committee, jlVjUff r(NES, Jfr 4. W, Hogg, M.H.R., wrote stating that the question of the recent •*" By-law fines would be brought under tbo notice of the proper authorities, The Minister for Justice also wrote stating that the infliction of fines was entirely in the hands of the Magistrate. ItEWKT, 'l'he report of tbo Works and Finance G'ommitteo was read. Of Cullen moved that tho allowance of £5 to Mr J, Russell bo abased by £5. njr Cullon's motion was not seconded, and the report was adopted aa read, I/EAVE OF ABSENCE, Qn the motion of the Mayor leave of absejipe was granted to CrCl]amjierlain'.' 5 ' A PEKCJKO QUESTION. pi P°rry asked if the Oounoil qould not compel persons to put up .< legal fences, on the boundary of any .. properties in the Borough,
Tho Mayor said tlio Borough could compel fonces to be erected facing the rands, when it affected the pubilic health or safety. | In reply to Cr Cnllon, Cr Perry said tho fence on tho Upper Plain ■Road, from Mr Renall's corner, was particularly alluded to by him. The matter was loft in abeynuco until next meeting. This being all the business, on tho motion of Cr Cullen the meeting then adjourned.
