TE NUI NOTES.

I From Our Own Correspondent, To Nui is still in the samo place, not washed away with all the wet weather we havo hud of late. Tlio last fow (lays havo bcon like spring. Te Nui-is very quiet now, but the busy season will soon commence. To-day out' local footballers are going to do tattle against a strong team from Homowood. Ido not know many of the visiting team's players, but they will want to bo a fairly strong team to [nit" our boys " down, Jimmy Owen wilt captain tlio To Nuitcs, and everyone knows he is a team in himself. An accident which might have resulted seriously, befel Mr and Mrs Dut.hie on their way home from a visit to a friend. They were crossing tlio To Nui River at the ford, in an open cart, and one of the wheels went into a hole, the cart, of course, capsizing, The result being that Aire Duthie was thrown out, and her face cut, also receiving several braises.

This is tho fourth accident that has occurred in the same place. I suppose the Wairarapa North County Council arc waiting until some one is drowned before they do anything in the shape of repairs. Wholesale dog poisoning is at present going on here, and it is not much credit to the individual who is carrying it on. It is to be hoped he will be caught before ho does any more damage. Among the dogs poisoned was one belonging to Mr A. Southcy, which he valued at from £l2 to .£ls. Mr Jas. Owen has also lost his two well-known sheep dogs, one of which he refused £lO for, The strangest part is that mangy cars running about the roads-do not come to any harm, only good dogs stilfcring. The amateur ministrels are still on the job, I hear they intend giving their performance the first week in September.
