IDLE AND DISORDERLY PERSONS
At the S.M. Court, Jlasterton, today, Mary Murray alias McMulleu, was charged, before Messrs Or," Heron and T. E. Price, J.P.'s, with being an idle and disorderly person, and with violently resisting Sergeant JJftAiylle and Constable Stewart. _7Ssrgcant McArdle gave evidence that the woman acted in the most violent manner. The 'convictions recorded against tho accused since 1887, were read by the Sergeant, which showed that she had serred nearly thi'eo parts of her time' in gaol,'thi) last sentence being twelve juonths for vagrancy. Accused said sho was not sentenced for vagrancy, but for being illegally on premises. Thc'Gnwfie however, proved different. Qeo. Dennis gave evidence ns to tho cpnduct of tho acpusod before ' being prreßted, and at the time of the arrest. In reply to the Bench, accused said she had work to go to at Paliiatua, and'nskcd to be allowed to go| there. l'h« Bench convicted and dischawjdd the accused. ■ mn. Hairis, another old offender, was charged with boing an idle and disorderly person, and pleaded not ihd evidence of Sorgeant McArdlo was to'the effect that tho accused followed no occupation, but was simply living on the woman.
