WAIRARAPA racing club. FIFTH ANNUAL REPORT. The next annual report of the Wairarapa Racine; Club reads ag_ follows;- . \*t' "In submitting the fifth report and balance sheet, your . stewards regret that, owing to the wet weather experienced at both the Summer and Autumn Meetings (especially at the latter) they are unable to give such a favourable account of the year's transactions as they would like to do, However, the club is in a good condition, and given fine weather next year, should more than regain any leeway made this year.
Reference to the statement of receipts and expenditure of tho Summer and Autumn Meetings will show that the approximate surplus '■'*' from the Summer Meeting was £292 5s 9d, and from the Autumn Meeting £66 7s 2d. The sum of £515 Ms 7d has been expended in permanent improvements. The gross return from the totalisator for 1894 was £l3-11 6s Cd; this year it is £1350 15s, which shows that no falling off has occurred in this direction.
The privileges realised £97 lis 3d _ less this year than last, which is dujfojjfr, to the restrictions put upon publican's booth by the Licensing Committee, and also perhaps to the fact that tho gates were froe to all horses and vehicles.
There aro 197 members, all of whom have paid up their subscriptions, and the only outstanding asset is the sum cf £lO 10s, due by one of the privilege holders. During tho year, 46 trainingpermitsAvere issued, as against 36 last year. The now training track is almost completed, and when finished should prove a sourco of revenue to tho Club. It will be necessary, however, to erect some 70 chains of fencing, to divide tho training truck from tho centre of the course.
The Easter flood (although an exceptionally heavy one) did no damage to the protected part of the river bank, but at a part hitherto untouched and unprotected it did considerable damage, necessitating an expenditure of £4119s 9d. The bank is now practically protected from end to end and if not neglected should only require a small outlaji*| from time to time to keep it secure-w A vote of thanks is due by the Club at this meeting to all who made donations towards the training track and funds of the Club, but especially to Messrs Bidwill Bros, for giving and carting willows for the river bank, and to Mr F. Pearce, for the gift of a set of tripod harrows for tho course. Your Stewards and officials have worked well together, and never shirked their duty. Meetings Imvo been held regularly on the first Saturday in each month, and no meeting has ever been adjourned for want of a quorum. You will bo asked, as usual, to appoint Judge, Starter, Clerk of the Scales, Clerk of the Course, Treasurer, Stewards and' Auditors forth: coining year, also to fix the amount to be given in stakes, and the number of days of Meetings. All notices of motion to be submitted to the meeting must be in tho hands of the Secretary at least 7 days J before the date fixed for the Ammajfl meeting," *
