GOLD FIND NEAR WELLINGTON.
LEASES APPLIED FOR, Bij Telcjii'ti/ili.—Press Association. WmxMiTox, Tuesday, Four applications have been received by the City Council for mining leases on the Karori Reservoir Reserve, just outside the town. One prospector said the find would give over two ounces to the ton. Many years ago a fair quantity of alluvial gold was found in a creek at Baker's Hill and the existtenuo of a reef was suspected but never found. The prospectors who have been at work for some time now, think they have hit upon this reef.
The Council has instructed tho Engineer to report how the Reservoir is likely to be affected beforo granting the leases.
