Sm,—Many residests of the Wairavapa will be anxious to know where "Millordalo" lies, and will bo astonished when they are told it is within six or seven miles of Masterton and surrounded by the rapid flowing waters of the Waingawa, In other words it is a fertile island in the bed of this snow-fed river. Hitherto this placewas only suitable for a hermit's habitation, or somebody elso who—being tired of tho busy scenes of life—found it more congenial to his health to retire to the dark recesses of a deep solitude. But Mr W. Miller, our indofatigablo Inspector of Stock (after whom the place receives its namo) saw at a glanco that with the expenditure of a few pounds the place could bo converted from a marsh to a recreation ground for picnics, etc. Ho at onco set to work and employed three mon under the able guidance of Mr E. O'Sullivan to erecfc.ariner fence all ronnd it, and then plant oak, ash, sycamore, alders, pines, pimis insignis, macrocarpa, elms, etc., and five varieties of willows to provent the encroachment of the river, In all, over one thousand trees are planted, and a few years henco" Millerdale" will be considered onoof the prettiest
