THE REPRESENTATIVE TEAM. [Bv Damoci.es.] At last the final selection for the Southern tour is before the public, and as may well have beeii expected, failed to please everyone, and has been very keenly criticised, The team is as follows Full-back: H. Wrigley ; three-quarters: McGovern, Booth, Ross; five-eight: Maguire ; half: Hudson; wings: Wood, Mitchell; forwards: Watson, D. and E. Udy, Cochrane, Emmett, Dockery, Cadwallader; emergencies: back, W, Thompson, forward, 0. Percy. The fifteen includes five Greytown, four Masterton, four Stars, two Carterton, and the two emergency men are Stars, Mr C. Beard (Greytown) will probably act us manager, and 'the captain will bo chosen by the team. As far as arrangements are yet made, the "reps" will leave tho Wairarapaon the 19th inst., playing South Canterbury on the 21st, and North Canterbury on the 24th, returning home on the 26th.
The North v. South Island match is to be played in Christchurcli on the 22nd, and two or three members of the Wairarapa team will probably be required to don the colors for their island,
As regards the personel of the Wairarapa team the Selection Committee have taken into consideration the necessity of playing heavy back men inpreference to light onos, and in the present selection have certainly a grand defensive lot, Whether this will be all that is required remains to be seen, On a wet ground, they will probably appear at their best, but on tine dry soil, a fast three-quarter would make a wonderful difference.
In comparison with last year's team they cannot be classed 1 as so brilliant in tbe backdivision, but in tho forwards they are quite equal, There are seven of last years" rep." players included, three who have represented us in past years, and five who don the district jersey for the first time. The new men are—Boss, Woon, Emmett, Dockery, and Cadwallader. It now .behoves every man chosen to go in for individual training for the next fortnight, and let us hope the team will return with a victoriouscareer. The Canterbury" reps." are spoken of as one of thostrongest combinations in the Colony this soason, and the advantage of playing on thflir own soil will take a powerful team to lower their colors, Our selection is undoubtedly a slow one, but their ability on the defenco and the line forward division should prove them capable of upholding the honor of the Wairarapa, Each member of the representative team is required to deposit tho sum of £4, five clear days prior to their departure. Of this amount, however, the greater portion will be refunded from tho proceeds of the
matches. Tho junior "rep" practice was bungled on Saturday, several players expecting the matcb to be played at Carterton, and others at Groytown. The " rep " team will, therefore, be finally chosen on Saturday next, when a practice will bo held at Pftrferton. Footballers will regret to learn that Mr W, Wgstbrook, a prominent member of the Club, is at present in the Masterton Hospital, ujjffering from rheumatic fyver, the results the last match, Stars mils J am glad to learn, however, that $p shows signs of improvement, a»4 bailers generally will tvish hip a , speedy recovery. The following is tho Wellington
senior representative team to play Manawatu on Saturday next: — Davidson, Roberts, Baumber, I<\ Galloway, Kelly, Crawfurd (captain), J.Kelly, McKonzie, Swindley, Campbell, Calnan, Poland, Young, Pringlo, Hardcastle; emergencies— Roach, De Joux, Pudnoy, Johnston, McAnnally, and McLean. The Wellington Junior "reps" to play Manawatu on Wednesday are as follows: - Jackson, Madden, Morton, Carswell, McCarty, Pago, Arnotf, Hart, Barr, Shepherd, Love, Sievers, Barlow, Heighton, Bush,
