Jlush, S.M., inllicted a penally of Oft) and Ills costs, on Charles Gilinour for unlawfully executing a transfer of certain shares in the Ivapai-Vermont Goldmining Company, in which transfer the name of the purchaser of the said shares was not written in ink at the time of execution I hereof. A meeting was held in the Prcsbytorian Cliurcli, Masterlon, last evening, the liev. Ji Wood in the chair. The Chairman called attention to the Bill before Parliament, dealing with the gambling evil. The following resolutions were then passed, and (lie Chairman was requested to send them to the members of Parliament concerned:— Moved by Mr Feist, seconded by Mr Anderson, "This meeting cordially approves of the Bill introduced by Air Carnell, which has for its aim the prohibition of (he gambling machine, the lotalisalor. This meeting holds that the legalising of this instrument is aj " framing of mischief by law," and respectfully requests the Premier and Mr. Hogg to support this effort for its suppression." Moved byMrlloldaway, seconded by Mr Compton, " This meeting heartily approves of the Bill " Kcstrainl of Incitement to Belting or Wagering," introduced by Air W. Hutchison, and holds that (lie purging of the newspapers from matter inciting to betting would largely reduce the gambling evil. The Government Licensing Bill was ntroiluccd by the Premier yesterday. The first mutter provided for is how the poll is to be taken, l'our questions arc to be submitted to electors, viz • —(lj Whether the number of licenses existing in the district is to continue ; (2) Whether the number of licenses existing in the district is to be reduced; (3) Whcthor no licenses are to be granted in the district ; (4) Whether no licenses are to be granted in the Colony. The licensing polls arc to be taken on election day, and a commit tec poll on a separate day. Club charters arc to he subject to the resultsoftlicLiceiisiiigPoll.andclubswill not he allowed to sell liquors except during hours the same as ordinary licensed premises. Clubs will be liable to be proceeded against iu the ordinary way for breaches of the Act. Any persons selling liquor to any male aborigiginal native, who is in a state of intoxication, or sells, or in any way gives or supplies, or allows to he sold, given or supplied any liquor to any female aboriginal native whomsooyer, is made liable to a penalty of not less than £2nor more than £lO. Prohibited persons make themselves liable to a penally of £lO by cnteriug any licensed premises, and so docs any person accompanying or procuring drink for them. Ike result of the licensing poll is to be decided, as follows:—On tlio question (1) of the number of licenses in a district existing as at present, and (2) whether the number of licenses shall be reduced, au absolute majority of the votes recorded will decide those question!. On questions—(3) local Prohibition, and (4) colonial Prohibition, a three-fifths majority of the votes recorded will be necessary to give effect to these. In any district where Prohibition has already been curried, a three-fifths majority will be required to reverse this decision.and likewise in case of colonial Prohibition,
