THE BROKEN HILL MINE.
Recriml July WJliun, Sydnky, July 30.
There is little change in the condition of tho mine, andalai'geiamount of smoke is still issuing from the centre, where drills aro being bored to enable water to bo poured into the supposed scat of tho lira, butjAl the other parts the volume 40<P greatly decreased. Several hoses have been stopped as it is considered that a diminished supply is now sufficient to cope with tho flames. Upon the advice of Dr. Robortson, the mining expert, the carbonic acid gas prepared will bo allowed to escape, and will not be brought into use unless tho firo shows signs of spreading to the open stops. It is believed tho gas would find its way into the parts of tho mine untouched by tho lire and do much damage. Blasting operations fortho purposo of smothering the flames are being continued, but it is thought the worst is over, and though it may continuo to smolder for somo time it will not spread.
