The Minister of Agriculture stated in the Assembly that the question of making Manchester a port of call under the new produce contract had received careful attention by tho Government, but they deemed it unwise to alter the form of tender, limiting the servico to London. The AgentGeneral, however, would be authorised to accept tenders for other ports as well as for London. The ijjesays owing to combination amongst the steamship lines at present trading to Australia, there is no chance of their including Manchester among the ports of delivery, except at such an additional cost aB would wholly destroy the beuofits expected from the wider field of distribution it opened up.
