OPAKI NOTES.

From Our Own Correspondent,

1 see by your paper that there has boena number of dances and balls in and around Mastorton this winter, aud accdrding to the reports thoy have been both enjoyabloand successful. Well, I do not see why we people of the Opaki should be left out in the cold altogether, so I am going to lot you know that we had a very nice little dance in Mr H, Remington's barn, oil Friday night last. There wore about thirty-live couples present, and I believe that all thoroughly enjoyed themselves; if they did not, it was not the fault of tho Committee and Secretary who 1 really believe did their level best to mnke things run smoothly. The Secretary (Mr S. Tankersley) also acted as M.C., to the satisfaction of all concerned. During the evening soveral good songs wero given by Messrs S. Tankorsley, R. Paltrier, A. King, and W. Tankersley, all of which were received with applause, especially ono by Mr S. Tankersley. At 12 o'clock Mr 11. Romington supplied the wants of the inner man with ten, coffee, and an abundance of good things; in fact I cannot give the supper, which was provided by Mrs Remington, too much praise. After supper the dance was kept up with renewed vigour till four o'clock in the morning. I was almost forgetting to mention, that the music was provided by Mr W. Stoodly, of Uarterton, who very kindly came up for the occasion, and his effort was very much appreciated, the time icing perfection.
