MONTHLY MEETING. j . S At tho monthly meeting of the y Education Board, held yesterday, ; Mr J. 11. Blair being absent through | illness, the Rev. J, Paterson was j voted to the chair. Tho other members present were Dr Newman, j M.H.H., and Messrs l l '. H. Eraser, j W.W.McCardlo, J. Young, W. U. Buchanan, M.H.R., and \V, A. Fitz- -j herbert. Miss Jessie Moucvieff, of Carter- ] ton, was granted a refund of • expenses of attending the Mount Cook Infant School to learn kindergarten work. j It was decided to call tenders for \ the erection of tho infant schools at i Pctone and Pahiatua. ( The Maugatainoka Committee 1 was allowed to divide the midwinter ■ vacation, so as to have a week now . and a week later on. 1 Tho Chairman and Mr McCardle ( were authorised to arrange for j repairs to the residence at Mauriceville, provided the cost does not exceed £SO. It was decided that Miss Franklin, pupil teacher atMauricoville, should he transferal to some other school when an opportunity occurs. Permission was granted the Greytown Committee to appoint tho local constable a truant ollicer. Mr It. Acheson wrote protesting against the Board's decision that ( the election was regular. The Board . decided to acknowledge receipt of the letter. The Hastwell Committee applied for new offices, and the Chairman of the Board and Mr McCardle were authorised to submit a report on the subject, The Board resolved to grant a subsidy on an amount to be raised by the Cross' Creek Committee for laying on water to the local school. It was decided to pay the rent of a building at Makmi for school purposes. Theappointment of Mr Drummond to the Pavkvale School was confirmed. A proposal by Mr M'Cardle that tenders should be called in Pahiatua for the manufacture, of desks for the district was lost. Mr Buchanan urged the Board to do something in the matter of erecting a school in a district a few miles east of Carterton, The Chairman, Mr Buchanan, and the Inspectors were authorised to report on the matter. The mid-winter vacation at Kai- ' tawa was extended to three weeks, 1 Mr 0. H, Osborne wrote, offering 1 to give a lease for seven years of the house at Dreyerfon, now in the . occupation of the local schoolmaster, ■ The Chairman and Mr M'Cardle were authorised to inspect the house and report to the Board. Consideration of the question of enlarging the Dreyerton school, was deferred until the Board has more funds at its disposal. The question of tho necessity of putting in a new chimney at Gladstone school, was left in the hands of the Chairman and Mr Buchanan, and authority was given to purchase a new pump for Dalefield.
