Tho championship matches drawn for to-morrow, are creating a deal of interest throughout the district, particularly the one to be played at Ctreytown between the elect of the Masterton and Groyfown Clubs. These teams are leading together for the championship, and a victory on either side to-morrow will make matters rather easier for tho rest of the season. The Masterton team has been altered considerably since the last round, several old players being again called on to don the colois. Groytown have been training hardforthisevcnt, andareinfarhctter individual form than the Masterton men. The hitter's fast backs and dangerous scoring men will, however, make them the favorites if the ground is fine. If the game is made
a buck one, Jlasterton will win ; if confined principally to tbo forwards, Greytown will, in my opinion, provo the superior team. Three or four drags of enthusiasts will go down from Mnsterton, and if the weather is liue the attendance of spectators should be very large. Tlio match Carterton v. Stars, will be played on the Oval, and a good game may be expected. Carterton aro confident that they can make an equally !{ood stand against their opponents, as upon the last occasion, when Carterton were victorious by a try to hi7j and the Stars are exceedingly anxious to upset their calculations, and turn the tables. " Touch-line " in the Observer tips Greytown to beat Masterton to-morrow, and Stars to beat Garterton. Very kind of him, I'm sure. He expects botli contests to be very close, and scoring small. Time will tell. A Lower Valley enthusiast thus eases his mind in reference to the Greytown-Masterton match to-mor-row:- So far our seniors have held their own, but they cannot but admit that the first match they played when they mot Mastertou was their best, but their backs all through have lacked dash. I have watched their Hag all through and cannotfind fault with theirfrontrank, being about the best combined set in Wairarapa; but I hear Allan Welch is away, and his place will bo tilled by Knowles on the wing. This is whore the ex-half will shine. Play loose Greytown, and the gamo will be yours. It is with regret I say it, your backs aro not equal to the occasion. Advise Hawke to pass more and reserve that fiddling kicking into touch. In fact your backs with one or two exceptions will have to play with a great deal more dash to meet those of Masterton. Do not wait to tackle, but go to meet yonr man." The Whito Stars defeated Parkvale yesterday by 21 points to 8. Sheppavd (2), Bowser, and Richards secured tries, and the latter kicked a splendid goal from a free kick.
The White Stars have entered two teams for tho Thursday Union Second Championship, Parkvale and Violets ono each, and it was also decided to seo if Featherston, Greytown and Cartorton could eacli get ono.
A protest entered by the Parkvale Club against the Oriental 2nd fifteen, was upheld at the meeting of the Thursday Union, on Tuesday evening. The following was the grounds for protest:—l. That the Oriental team consisted of players belonging to the first lifteen, whereas ,it was decided by this Union that [the Oriental Cup team was to bo a hona fide second fifteen 2, By breach of law No. 15, that the Oriental Club bad not paid their subscription to the Union, and were therefore suspended.. 3. By breach of Rule 9, in not sending a list of members to the Seoretary of the Union,
