SACRED CONCERT.
MR A. H. GEE'S COMPANY. At 8.30 last evening the Theatre' Royal was comfortably filled with an audience of betweon 400 and 500 persons to hear Mr A. 11. Gee's Concert Company give thoir final' concert in Masterton, Of course, most of the programme centres in the great baritone's efforts, and all who had the pleasure of hearing him in his throe solos, Sullivan's" Thou art passing hence," and " Tho Lost Chord," and Gounod's " Nunareth," cannot but conclude that Mr Geo is one of the finest vocalists ever heard in New Zealand, and one whose future success is assured. In his first song, " Thou Art Passing Hence " (Sullivan), his exceedingly | tender rendering moved many of those who knew the circumstances of | the tears. In" Tho Lost j Choul," his grand voice rang through the building in all the glory of that beautiful song, and from first to last the thorough control and perfect ease with which ho produces his softeit as woll as his grandest effects, remind us of Santley whilst in his! prime. In "Nazareth " the majesty I of the rendering was in thorough' accordance with the greatness of f tho song. In fact, we may sum up j Mr Gee's singing in two remarks, that were constantly reiterated by j the audience whilst leaving,! "Beautiful," "grand." Of tho! other items, special mention 1 may bo made of Mr E. Walton's: rendering of " Los Rameaux," f.r.d!
"Ave Maria," (Gounod) by Miss Marion Sampson with violin and organ obligato. Mr E, Stevenson's violin performances displayed his technique to advantage, but his obligato to Ave Maria was the most tasteful of his performances and was full of expression. Mr Meadows also ably assisted tho success of the concert by supplying ihe organ obligate.
