DEATH OF ANOTHER OLD SETTLER.
Another oldaudrespected Masterton settlor tho third within tlio past fevr days to pass awaydied at an early hour this morning at her rosidonce, Kuripuni, in the person of Mrs Agnes Thompson, relict of the late Mr J. E. Thompson. Deceased, who was 68 years of age, left Scotland for Melbourne in her fifteenth year, and saw a good deal of pioneer life in the early days of Australia. In tho year 1865, Mrs Thompson came to Wellington with her husband, who took the freemasons' Hotel (afterwards Tho National) and subsequently the Prince of Walcs'HotelinGrey-stroct, About twenty years ago Mr and Mrs Thompson sold out and camo to Mastoh-on, and for many years carried on the Princo of Wales' Hotel, in Queen Street, aftorwards taking tho Empire i Hotel, which Mrs Thompson and Mr T. B. Thompson carried on aftor the death of Mr J, E. Thompson. About two years ago docoasod, whoso health j began to fail, retired from active business life, living quietly at her son's farm, until about nine weeks ago, when she was was stricken with paralysis. Tho unremitting care and. attention of Mrs T. D. Thompson,who' nursed hor most devotedly, prolonged I life almost beyond expectation, but) medical skill and careful nursing could do no more, and at twenty minutes to one o'clock this morning, the sufferer passed away in the presence of hor immediate relations. Deceased who was held in great esteem and respect for her straightforward, plain-dealing, yot withal kindly ways, is survived by one sou (Mr T, D. Thompson), and one daughter, and ako several grandchildren.
