The Anniversary tea meeting in
connection with the Wesleyan l Church, takes place here early next month. Preparations ere being made by the Committee to make the affair successful, both financially and otherwise. On the Sunday following tlio tea, the Rev. Mr Baumber, of Wellington, will conduct the services. Money is very "tight" in this district just now. One business man informed your correspondent that lie ltad never been compelled to sue for outstanding debts, but as some debts have been owing for the last four or five years, he finds that he will have to take action to recover the same. The same remarked that he was s almost ashamed to ask theso defauihfs for the money, as it had owin"or such a considerable time. This beats all! An old native the worse for liquor was thrown off his horse between the Taratahi and Masterton last Monday afternoou, while on his way Lome to the Taueni. He was very * badly cut and bruised about the bead and face, So much for the love of drink. Young Sam Becre, who was taken to the hospital some time ago is progressing well towards recovery, Mr M. R. Varnham has been > re-appointed bandmaster to Ik Greytown Band. Tlio rival butchers from Carterton intend running theircavtthree times a week instead of twice, round Greytown. They say it pays very well.
