MASTERTON BOROUGH COUNCIL.
ORDINARY MEETING.
The regular fortnightly meeting of the Masterton Borough Council was held last evening. Present: His Worship the Mayor and Crs Hornblow, Hessey, Cullen, Wagg, Yates, Chamberlain and Feist, .mimics. The minutes of the previous meeting wore read and confirmed. TYl'HOlll. Dr Butenient reported a ease of typhoid fever, under treatment. THE WAU'OUA lIRIWIE, The Greytown Borough Council wrote asking pariienhus of the arrangement between the Master-ton Borough Council and the Wairarapa North County Council re Waipoua Bridge maintenance. The Clerk said particulars had been sent by him as requested. The Public Works Department wrote asking the Council's formal sanction to the arrangement for maintenance of the Waipoua Bridge. KIVEII KXCIiOACHHEXT. Mr A. W. llenall wrote with reference to the encroachment of the Waipoua River, pointing out that Mr Adams was a great sufferer, and hoping the Council would pause before wasting money on any works on the town side of the river. On the motion of Cr Feist it was resolved to thank Mr Renali for his letter, and to refer the same to the Waipoua Protection Committee, mi: IMIWXDIXG ACT. J. C. Ingram wrote applying for authority under the luipoundiug Act to prosecute owners of stray horses, etc, and to impound stray cattle, Cr Feist moved that power he granted. Cr Cullen seconded the motion which was carried, KIVEIt KOAI>. Henry Weslbrook wrote applying for a twelve months lease of a section on the Council's reservo at River Road. The matter was referred to the Works Committee, with power to act.
LKAVJ; OK AItSKNCK. On the motion of Or Chamberlain leave of absence was granted to Cr Mntrio owing to ill-health. lIUILDIXG IIV-I.AW, James Russell, Borough Surveyor, reported that G. W. Woodrooffe had erected a chimney in Kail-street contrary to the Borough Building Regulations. Ur Cullen said they ought to support the Borough Surveyor in bis work. He would move that the Mayor and Mr Russell interview Mr Woodrooffe on the matter. Cr Hessey said an interview wns hardly necessary; all they had to do was to see the By-laws carried out. He would move as an amendment that Mr Woodrooffe bs asked to comply with the By-laws. Cr Feist seconded the aniendmont, Cr Hornblow said it was all right if the Council intended to stick lo their By-laws, but worse things had been allowed lo slip by, and he did not see why Mr Woodrooffe should be singled out. Cr Hessey said two wrongs did not make a right, and if the Council had been lax in the past with regard to By-laws, they intended to be strict in the future, The amendment was then carried. REPORTS. The Works and Financo Committee's report was read and adopted. received, and referred to the Gas Committee. Cr Wagg drew attention to a [stable' lately erected near Mr Daniell's timber yard. It was resolved to ask Mr Russoll I to report on the matter. On the motion of Cr Cullen, tho Council then adjourned.
