MUNICIPAL FIRE BRIGADE.
ANNUAL MEETING.
The annual meeting of the aboro Brigade was held at the Central Station, Church-street, last evening. Therowas a large attendance /of Firemen from the Kuripuni and Masterton branches. Captain D. Pickering being in the chair. After the despatch of the usual routine business the Secretary (Mr K. Pragnell) presented the balance Bheet for tho past year. The general account showed a debit of 7s lid, but the reserve account had a credit balance £1515s 7d. wSnetary. G. Braggins, of the Kuripuni branch, read his annual report, also the marks obtained bj the members of that branch for attendance, showing that Lieutenant P. Hunter had obtained the highest number of marks, viz,, 109 with Branchman J. Butcher, junr., second with 93. The Secretary's annual report for the Central branch was read, showing that the Brigade responded to ninoteen alarms during the year. The number of alarms for last year was twenty. The alarms wore for house fires, 5; chimney fires,.!); rubbish fires,2; falsß alarms, 3. The value of property where fires occurred was £l,lOO, on which was insurance to the amount of £025. The claim« paid, by insurance companies amounted to £lB2 10s, so that the Brigades had saved for the companies the sum of £442105. Damage by fire and water amounted to £741105, a saying to the ratepayers of £35810s j£eep regret was expressed for the <mk loss the Brigade sustained by by the death of the late Treasurer (Mr Baumber). The highest number of attendance marks for the year wore Engineer E. Bragging, 92 j Fireman H. Greathead, Bf. 94 is the possible. The election of officers then took
place as follows {—Central Branch: iiieutenant, J. Prentice (re-elected) j | jjnoreman,,P. Reynolds; assistantforeman, P. C. Murray; secretary, H. T. Marsh; treasurer, E. P. Pragnell; 2nd engineer, R.Findlay; 3rd engineer, I'. Matthews; branchmen, lat, H. Ewington; 2nd, B, Pickering; 3rd, Fitaimmoiis, junr,; 4th, C, Bentley. - Kuripum Branch,—Lieutenant, Peter Hunter (re-elected); foreman, Wm.Morris; Secretary, G. Braggins; branchmen, C, Braggins Ist, J. Butcber2nd; messenger, J.Braggins. The following new members woro elected ;—Messrs J; Berry and F. Shearsby,' elected working members of the Brigade, and Mr Sven Syverston, elected honorary member. f'i hearty vote of thanks was Med to the retiring officers, pt, Pickering mentioning in particular,;the services rendered by the retiring Secretary, Mr 8,. Pragnell, and the meeting concluded'with a hearty vote of thanks to Captain' Pickering, -which' was carried with acclamation, for the' interest dig:
