FEATHERSTON ROAD BOARD.

ANNUAL REPORT. Tho auuual reportofthe Featherston Road Board, adopted at the annua! meeting of ratepayers lust Saturday reads as follows: In reviewing the transactions for the past year your Board has first to deal with the Bank overdiaft which stood at the cioso of tiie period at £I6BO 5s 9d, as against £IS3G lis 2d at the 31st March, 1894. We had hoped to very considerably reduce this, but through urgont-expenditure on the largo bridges, aggregating £9OO odd pounds, and the necessity of keeping the main roads in a fair state it will be seen that economy has been exercised to keep the amount down as much as possible. Tho main bridge giving access to tho Lower Valley and Eastern portion of the district upon which the main expenditure was made, lias stood the Btrain of the lato flood, and should not require heavy expenditure ' for some time.

Tho new rato will give an income of £3500, and although it will still be necessary to cut down works to only maintenance, your Board hope tho same confidence will continue as hitherto, and that ratepayers will not urge works which might stand over for a time, and thus help tho Board to reduce a liability which, until witiiin the last few years, did not exist to Buch an extent.

By the balance sheet, it will bo seen that during the year, a.sum of £5575 13s 9d has been dealt with, £4569 14s of which has been expended in public works, £514 7s 2d in redemption and interest on loans, etc., and £466 4s Id cost of administration, The gross income haß been £5431 19s 2d.

The increase of rate on last valuation, is about £350. The meetings of the Board have been regularly attonded, and a keen interest folt throughout by all wardens, in tho welfare of the district, and general management of the Board's affairs,

Tho damage by the late floods has not been so serious as in other parts of the Wairarapa, and it is hoped repairs will soon bo in a fair way towards completion. Thebalanco sheet will show all transactions, but should further information be retired in matters of detail, it can be obtained from the Clerk. In conclusion, wo thank you for tho confidence shown in reelecting us to represent you, and

can assure yoa tlio Board will do its utmost to maintain the welfare of

the district, and ratepayers.
