THE HALF-HOLIDAY ACT

At a meeting o£ shopkeepers favourable to Wednesday halt-holiday, a hundred and sixty being present, it was agreed to form a Shopkeeper's Defence League, for the purpose of defending any prosecutions arising from remaining open on Saturday afternoons.

The following resolution was also j passed" That the meeting, while recognising the importance of keepi ingone liulf-holitlny in each week,are [desirous of having the liberty of keeping open on Saturday, and dosing on Wednesday, experience having proved that Saturday closing is most disastrous to business, and request the Government to delay any further prosecutions, until Parliament meets." The resolution is to be forwarded to the Government, and it was agreed to ask each member of both Houses to support the resolution.
