WAIRARAPA RACING CLUB.

From Our Oieu Correspondent. A meeting of Stewards was held at the Umpire Hotel, Featherston, ou Saturday. Present—Messrs W, E, Bid will (Chairman), J. P. Russell (President of the Club), G. Reynolds (Treasurer), G. T. F. Hutton (Secretary), W. J.Nix, A.McKenzie, A. M. Wilkinson, and W. 0. WilI liams.

The minutes of tho previous ordiuary and special meetings were iwid aud confirmed. JLTIib meeting was here adjouMd for a while to interview Trustees of the Racecourse Reserve, Messrs Russell and Matthews, as to the late damages by Hood.

The Chairman said the Club had expended over £3OO on protective works, which had stood very well, but tho river had broken in at a new place, and had cut out a lump of the land, and necessitated a further expenditure of £SO. The Club asked the Trustees to favorably consider an application for assistance, as through tho postponement of tho races tho Club had not done bo well as they had expected. Tho Club had not lost any time, and had secured willows and would commence the work on Tuesday. Mr Matthews said lie should bo glad to support an application. Mr Russell said ho thought tho case was one the Trustees might help, and a formal application should bo made, which he would support. It was decided to adopt this course and tho ordinary meeting wasajesinned, A Tho Treasurer stated that tlio credit at the bank was £163 3s 4d.

Accounts amounting to £75 16s 3d wore passed for payment. Sevoral horse owners wrote asking permission to train their horses on the plough for the steeplechase. This was'granted provided they " kept oil the grass." Nearly all tho privilege holders wrote asking for refunds on account of their losses through tho bad weather, ai:d tho postponement of tho races. The Stowards considered tho Club had lost nioro than anyono and could not see their way to grant any relief, but extended tho time of payment in ono caso.
