The attitude of the European Powers Ims amazed the Japanese Cabinet, and its relations with Russia are now exceedingly strained. London, April 28. The Vienna correspondent of the Standard says that unless Japan sacrifices herself to the Czar's ambition the situation will cause Russia to hasten on the completion of the Siberian Railway, and momentous issues may bo expected, involving; grave injury to British commerce in the East.
Received April 30, la.m. Shakguai, April 29. Owing to continued disturbances in Formosa, a force of sailors from a German warship has been landed at Tamsui, a treaty port in the northwest of the island, to protect the foreign residents.
