INQUEST.
THK LATE MB.'D. FAISuEE. An inquest into the circumstaices attending the death of tho late Mr D, Falconer, was held at Miki Mild on Saturday afternoon, beforo Mr T. Hutchison, District Coroner, and the following jury :—Messrs V 7. 0. Pinhey (foreman), J. E. Catt, (J. Dagg, August Johnson, and Christen Carlsen.
David Falconer, brother of the deceased, gave evidence to the effect that returning from work on tho previous evening, his brother had 1 remarked a tree held only by two roots, and proceeded to chop at the roots to fell it, while witness was measuring a fallen tree near at hand, Heard the tree crack, and saw the deceased running down the slope on which the tree had been standing The tree struck deceased on the head, and ho fell at onciMie tree falling beside him. He Us unconscious, and never recovered. The side of his head was smashed and blood was running from his nose and mouth. Thought deceased must havo been killed ously, Shouted to his wife that Donald was killed, Sho went away and he remained by the body till Herbert Harrison came and assisted witness to carry the body home, Dr Beard was called who stated death had been instantandom. Deceased was a single man and haa\: no property to witness' knowledge. Did not think deceased's life was insured, _ Herbert Harrison gave corroborative evidence. Tho jury returned a verdiot of accidental death.
