Leases in perpetuity were granted to J. McCrae and W. and A. Taggart. Mr D. E. Toohilll, of Eketahuna, applied to transfer a section in the Parkvillo Block, which he had taken up for his son, who, having chosen a profession, could not occupy it. Ho was advised to surrender, in which case his improvements would be protected. A report was read from one of the rangors that steps were being taken tocircumventthe Board, and compel tlio transfer of Village Homestead sections, by meeting them mortgaged. The Board decided to make full enquiries before allowing such sections to be mortgaged. It was decided to dispose of the totava on the large reserve near Eketahuna, in two lots, at per acre, allowing the purchasers to pay by instalments as the timber is cut.
The caso of a Pahiatua widow and family, who had been turned off a village section, was brought before the Board by Mr Hogg. Ittrauspired that after the death of the husband (Mr Barlow), tho Public Trustee, at the instigation of certain creditors, sold tho home, and the widow was induced to sign tho transfer.
Mr Hogg said the case was a cruel one, and he should advise the widow to apply for the arrears of rent, which, not withstanding the instructions of the Minister of Lands, that thoy should not be extracted, had been deducted from the proceeds of the sale. .
