Jlr Jxeid said the siipernnnnatioi fund was an iiilieritiuice from pre vinus administrations, and wa typical of the way the finances o the Colony had been managed. Th state of the fund was ut .scandal, am ii disgrace to the country, and th matter was serious, and would bav the careful consideration of th Government, who were desirous o placing the fund on a better basil He thought the deputation was pni suing a wise course in moving in th direction of a life insurance system but one great difficulty in the wa; was that the majority in the Paiiia ment was opposed to pensions. Som serious changes would probably havi to be made in the Civil Service, bu every individual would receive afai remuneration for his services.
