EXCELSIOR CRICKET CLUB.

ANNUAL SOCIAL. The one redeeming feature about the wretched weather experienced for the Easter Holidays was that it interfered to 110 very great extent with the enjoyment of those present at the annual social of the Excelsior Cricket Club, held in the Temperance Hall last evening. Although the rain was coming down in torrents, and a postponement of the affair seemed imperative, the Committee thoughtfully procured the service of the Palace Car, and by the time of starting, between forty and fifty couples comfortably filled the room. There is no doubta large number were disappointed, but those who had braved the elements were evidently disposed to make up for lost time, and spend the last few hours of the holidays in the jolliest possible manner. The hall was decorated with flags, and photos, and pictures lined the walls. Tho music, supplied by Mr Mereweather Meadows, and ! a number of ladies and gentlemen present, was pronounced to excellent. Dancing was kept going in a very merry style by the M.C.'s, Messrs Johnstone and Nicol, till tho early bom's of the morning. Musical items and 6ongs interspersed the programme, the contributors being Misses Williams, Gardiner, and Mossrs Owen, Illingsworth, Johnstone and Meadows. The refreshments were all that could be desired, and everything passed off without a hitch. The Management Committee worked exceedingly hard all day, being considerably handicapped by the state of the weather in arrangingdetails, and Mr A. Nicol, the Secretary, and his club-mates, deserve tho utmost credit for their management of such a successful and appreciated evening's enjoyment. During tho evening a presentation of a bat was made by Mr W. Johnstone, to Mr- H. Wrigloy, who had gained tho best average for tho soason. The bat was given by Mr Eedmond, of the Queen's Hotal,
