Tin: members of the London Stock Exchange are something more than city sharks, and now and then show the human side of their natures. Early in February a competition in winter waistcoasts was held, in aid of a charity. The Rialto says, " Brokers and jobbers have liunr- " ious tastes in dress and exhibit in " the matter of waistcoats a partieu- " lurly glowing fancy, The present "severe weather has caused the "House to blossom out in "variegated waistcoats like a " bed of chrysanthemums; and in " the Consol market, the competing ,l garments were hung across a " string, like bunting on a gala-day, "or shirts on a washing-day. The " dazzling colours positively seared "the eyeballs of several on"lookers. The three prize win"ners, duly decorated with ro- " settcs of different lines, like prize " cattle, were marched round the " House, in their shirtsleeves, wear- " ing the victorious waistcoats, fol- " lowed by one member who was " marked'highly commended,' while " the rear was brought up by the Hon. " Gilbert Johnstone, labelled' com- " mended. 1 "
