FEATHERSTON NEWS.

(From Our Own Correspondent), Monday.

The usual monthly meeting of the Featherston Road Board was held on Saturday. Present—Wardens Matt-hows (Chairman), Bidwill, Evans, Harris, Nix, Donald and McLeod.

The Treasurer reported the overdraft at £I6BO 5s 9cl. Outstanding thirds £167 5s 7d, and extra loans for Kahautara Pukeo Roads £ll2.

Accounts amounting to £450 9s 4d wore passed for payment. The Engineer's report was read and adopted.

The Clerk was instructed to write to the North County Council, and ask -what is tbo Waingawa Bridge planked with, and how long it has been down—lt was resolved to paint the band-rails of bridges with luminous paint. Notice of motion was given by the Chairman, that he would move, at the special meeting on the 27th, that "a general rate of fd in the £, payable on May Ist, be struck for the ensuing year."

It was resolved to hold the annual meeting on May 'lth, at 12 noon, and the meeting of ratepayers a quarter of an hour later.

A meeting of Stewards of tho Wairarapa Racing Club, was lield on Saturday afternoon, at the Empire Hotel. Present—Messrs W, E, Bidwill, (Chairman), Fred, Pearce, W. J. Nix, A. M. Wilkinson, W. 0. Williams, J. S. Cundy, and J. Reynolds, The Treasurer's statement shewed a credit balance of £99 15s 3d, and £7O were passed for payment. Permission was granted to F. Hiloy to transfer his interest in both booths, to C. and J. Cress. Wi Hutana wrote asking if the Stewards would allow him to havo his horses sold as they come in after each race.—lt was resolved that they could not dothisbut they would allow him to advertise on the cards when they are to be sold. The Traffic Manager wrote 6tating that he would run a special train on Easter Monday but could not do so on the following day, but that the afternoon train would be delayed a little.

The Inspector of Police wrote stating that there would be three more policoputon at the races, including a detective, so that tbo Club should receive all assistance they require in putting a stop to betting. Jn connection -with betting it was resolved to advertise on the back of the tickets that no botting would be allowed. The following tenders were received for 77* chains of formation of the new training track: J. McGuinness, £2 9s 6d per chain; W. Wortsman, £2; Feast Bros. £2 2s 6d;E. Kelly, £ll2s sd; T. Lawry and J. Tocker, £ll2s 6d. After somo discussion it was resolved to accept Lawry and Tockor's tender.
