Masterton, Monday. Messrs R, E. Hornblow & Co., auctioneers and produce merchants, report as follows for the week ending Saturday, April 6th:—There has been no material alteration in prices during tho week. Although an average amount of business has been done, the prices obtained for produce has been anything but re-assuring to sollors. With reference to oats, one of our representative wholesale houses in Wellington, wrote that good short oats are obtainable there at the extraordinary low figure of Is 4|d per bushel, sacks included, and the very best oaten sbeaf chaff at 55s per ton, Such quotations as these are appalling. Potatoes are much about the same in price as last week; we are kept well supplied. Poultry is overstocked, and prices exceptionally low. Eggs are somewhat scarce, and good prices obtainable. Grass seeds remain at last week's quotations. In horses, our sales on Saturday were somewhat flat; this, in a great measure, was duo to the high reserves placed on entries; good hacks and harness horses are in demand. Pigs.-In this line we had numerous entries ht only a few Bold, Properties,—We still keep this department to the fore, One small deferred payment section in the Puketoi-Alfredton district passed through onr hands j also one town allotment in Paikyille. Our wholesale prices are as follows : Butter sid per lb; eggs Is Id per dozen.
Oats Is 6d to Is 9d; oaten sheaf chaff 55s to 60s.
Potatoes 55s to 65s per ton. Poultry.—Fowls Is to Is 9d j' ducks 28 j turkeys 5s j geese 4s, Horses.—Hacks £i to £9 ; harness do £5 to £l2 ; light draught, £ls; Ye,hicles-second-hand tptps i from £7 to £ll, sets of harness 20s to £3 ; eaddJes SOa to id.
