(From Our Own Correspondent). ' Friday, The Native Land Court re- , commenced its sitting hero this week. At present there are not a great number of Natives in town, many ' being away from the district. Most ' of the empty houses have been let to ] the Maoris. We are always pleased to see the ] natives in our midst as they tend to ] livon the place up and certainly , improve business. Just what is ] wanted! ] A contingent of the Bchool cbil- ] dren, about Bixty in number, are to | pay a visit to the Empire City tomorrow, If the weather is fine a most enjoyable time should be spent, M£j£ar now postmaster arrives here ""•HHBB week, Mr Heron, relioving , oicer, has been in chargo sinco Mr , Black's removal, The upstairs apartments of the post office in our town certainly need re-paperintr, and a touch of varnish \ would improve the appearance, The J authorities should have the matter . 6eeutoatouce, ] I hear that the Foresters' Anns j Hotel, now in charge of Mr Watt, is , to change hands this month, Mr ' Robt Buokeridge is spoken of as being the now proprietor. The Anniversary services in connection with the Presbyterian Church are to be held next Sunday. The following evening the annual ; social takes place in the Foresters' i . Hall. The services on Sunday are : to be conducted by the Ror. Robt. Ewan, of Christcburcb, •■,-.■ Mr F. H, Wood is calling lenders for his new auction rooms, More work for the carpenters! The Mutual Improvement class met last Monday evening, when fjjjcers for ensuing quarter were «ted. The benefit concert to Mr Harry 4. Thomas was fairly well attended last night, and the items were well rendered. A monster concert preceded by a torchlight procession will be given shortly in aid of the fire engine fund. A half-holiday is observed here to-day in honor of a visit from the Minister of Lands. Sore throats and colds are very prevalent in this district just now. The weather has been very cold lately. The first white frost of the season, appeared here this morning, The quarterly meeting of the Greytown Wesleyan Church, whb held in the Belvedere Churoh, yesterday. Amongst other matters dealt with, tho following resolution was passod:—" This meeting ex- ■ presses its gratitude to Messrs Burton and Pybus, for the valuable assistance they have from time to time rendered, in supplying the mMfilpits in this circuit. Their VflPmces have been much appreciated, and they carry with them, to thoir new spheres of labour, the good withes of office bearers and congregations."
