CORRESPONDENCE.
THE TINUI RABBIT CASES,
[to THE EDrjOR.l
Slit,—Your Tinui correspondent's' notes are sometimes very funny, to say the least of them, especially the report of the late Tinui cases, The effusion is a pure stretch of imagination. In one case he reports the defendant to have said that jf his neighbours would destroy the rabbits on their sections he would have none on his, Now, what tho settlor Baid was " Would it not be better if simultaneous action were takon," This is likely to cause bad feeling with neighbours. In another case your correspondent says "The Agent had to be reminded by a defendant that he (the Agent) was on bis oath," This, I am sure, did not occur, nor did Inspector Miller allude to Tinui faces" wherever they may be," as my experience teaches me that Inspectors as a rule know' only too well whore tho bad faces are. If your correspondent had taken exceptions to the strange decision of the S.M. fining small holders more than large ones, he might do the affair justice. But the whole report from begining to end, as I stated before, is nothing more nor less than pure imagination or hear say. rlt is bad enough for the sheep-farmer and Inspector to have the truth published, without having"' to ' contend with a report of what die} not happen, But; the majority o,f the pedple of Tinui know where the effusion comes from, and can expect litflo else from that quarter, unless; it'jf'a'gepuine report of a'cricket majlch.—l am, etfl,,' ,
Truthful. Tinui, 30th March, 1895,'
The London correspondent of the N,Z, Timet writes;—"Mr George lioetham informs me, in answer to questions, that thore is no truth in the rumour crediting him with an early return to New Zealand. As, howoror, his fatber-in-kw and mother-in-law (Mr! and Mrs Levin) are bettor.Mrsßeetham and he will go to tho Continent shortly for a time. Mr Beotham also denies that he contemplates assisting in any of the Now Zealand mine promotions. He thinks the impression may have got about through bis showing peoplo somo samplos of alluvial gold sent him from the Colony,"
