The Management Committee of tho Wellington Rugby Union this season consists of Messrs Nichqlls (Poneke), Bate (Wellington), and McKenzie (Petone), Messrs Faclie, Bate, and McKenzie are the delegates to the N.Z. Union. The season was opened in Masterton on Saturday last by the Red Star Clnb,a large number of players taking part in the practice. The captain and vice-captain picked sides, and short and merry spells were played, both teams scoring. The annual match between the Red Stars and Melrose will lo played at Masterton on the Queen's Birthday. A fixture between the second teams will also probably be played, Messrß Cargill, Norton and Jeffries are the delegates of the Red Star Club, to act in conjunction with tho JjWerton Club, as a deputation to wWupon the Park Trustees at their neit meeting in reference to the ,Oval for football purposes, A new Club has been formed atTe Whiti, and will compete for the Junior Cup, It is stated that H. 0. Tully, who played for Greytown at the commencement of last season, intends to don the Carterton colors this year. The Junior players of Greytown are rightly incensed that they were not approached re. the forming of the Thursday Rugby Union. The proposal came from Carterton, and the initiators may be able to explain why Greytown and Featberston were not invited to attend the meeting. At the annual meeting of the Wairarana Rugby Union, which should be held shortly, it is to be hoped some trophy will be awarded to the winners of the Junior Championship last year, arid arrangements made for "something to play for" in future, I understand a gold' medal was presented to the Union, by an enthusiast last year, to bej yarded tothj juniors, but all trace medal seems to have been lost, and nothing has been «id about the matter, At a meeting of the Red Star Clnb hold on Saturday evening, it was unanimously resolved Ito withdraw the protest entered:againit tjie MasUrton'Club last seaeen.
