■ Amongst the many improvements made lately in the business places in Queen Street, thoso just completed by Mr J, L. Murray are the most extensive • that have been made for some time, rinding his former premises too small for his rapidly increasing, trade Mr Murray obtained a lease of the whole building and has so arranged that the two shops have been made into one large, roomy, and well lighted establishment in which his valuable and well-assorted stock can displayed to advantage. The en- . jpjees nre two in number, the side £" next to the Club Hotel being retained for. the clothing and mercery department and the new portion of the sliop is filled with articles of ladies' wear, and general drapery and furnishings,; The large window is fitted with every contrivance for the proper display of' goods, and has four of. the largest panes of plate glass in Masterton, and the display of men's clothing, r etc., made on Saturday attracted much attention. A handsome stand is placed in the centre of the floor on which is shown ties of every conceiy»l)lo pattern, and on the other, handsome dress tweeds made at the Kaiapoi factory. The upper floor of the building has been neatly iemovedanda balcony runs round three sides, which produces a pleasing *t, while plenty of room is left Mm storage of goods and the display of rugs, carpets, etc. The carpenters' work was carried out by Mr C. E, Daniell, Mr Pickering doing the gas fitting and Mr Cole the painter's work. Mr Murray may be congratulated on having premises equal to any in the district in his line of business, and we wish him every success.
