lii;sri:cnxii the telephone girls whom our Wellington correspondent has recently rung up, it may be interesting to know that in New York, experts with stop watches are conlinually " ringing up " in order to test the service. They do not measure lime by minutes in the telephone exchanges on the other side of the Atlantic; the unit of time is onefifth of a second. And still inventors arc racking their brains to discover some new time-saving arrangment. It would be reassuring to know if any official tests are ever made in Wellington as to the rapidity of the service. Between the Now York fiftli of a second and the alleged Wellington live minutes there is a, field for investigation.
