W.Hogg M.H.11, to the Minister of Lands this morning, They asked that the Totes on the estimates for the Central Mangamahoe Road (£500); Cleland's Road (£300); Barton's Line to Wairerc (£300); should bo handed over to the Road Board, intimating that loans for these roads had been raised, and contracts let, oil the understanding that tlio Government votes would be also available.
The deputation explained that they were anxious to secure the votes because it bad been rumoured that tho money was likely to be handed over to the Assistant-Sur-veyor General, for the benefit of tho co-operative gang. The Minister replied that the Government had to retain a proportion of the rates for the assistance of the unemployed, but in this instance as the money was intended to supplement loans raised by the settlers, it would be handed over to the local body, and having been passed by the Cabinet, the votes were now available,
The deputation waited afterwards on Mr Ronaync, General Manager of Railways, and was informed that enquiries would be made as to the desirability of providing a cadet or other railway officer at tho Mangamahoe flag station.
