SUDDEN DEATH.
We regret to record the sudden and somewhat unexpected death of a well-known Masterton resident, Mr George Cooper, carpenter, of Sussex-street, Yesterday Mr Cooper, who for some years past has been in tho oinploy of Mr U, E. Daniell, was despatched, with Mr Whitaker, to Alfj'edton on horseback, and this morning Mr Daniell was astonished to receive a telegram from Mr Whitaker, stating that Mr Cooper had been found dead in his bed, and that it was surmised that the cause of death was heart disease.
Mra Cooper and hor two children are at the present time staving at Whakataki for the heajth, of the former, and Mr Qanioll, without in. forming, her of the fatality, has wordea a somewhat less alarming message, summoning her to Masterton, and sending a buggy to meet her.
The whole circumstances connected with the affair seem to he inexpressibly sad! Tho late Mr Cooper was Ift big strong man and there was not the slightest indication of any illness on his part. Of course an inquest will be necessary and all arrangements are being made for holding one, and for thp subsequent interment, The deceased has friends' in tho South Island, but till Mrs Cooper returns to Masterton their address, is unknown,
