MAURICEVILLE ROAD BOARD.

ORDINARY MEETING. The ordinary meeting of the Mauviceville Road Board was licid on Saturday, the 23rd inst. Present —Messrs C. Forsberg (Chairman), J, F. Heckler, C. Tait and P. Gleeson. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed and correspondence outwards. Letters were read from the Secretary to the Treasury intimating that loans of £7OO for Cleland's ltoad and £I2OO for Central Mangamahoeßoad are now available, and also notifying the Board that £3OO, grant in aid for llmraua Valley Road, lias been paid into its account at the Bank.

From the County Clerk informing the Board that the Council had agreed to appoint Mr Hemming Neilsen as keeper of the Mauricevillo pound.

From Commissioner of Crown Lauds, requesting information with reference to the expenditure of thirds and fourths during the year ending 31st March; from the same desiring to be furnished with certain information as to the bearing the proposed Fair Rent Bill would have on the landed property and local revenue of the district.—The Clerk was directed to reply to the Commissioner.

It was resolved towarnMr Brooks that he must not removeanymaterial from a lower level than the present surface of the road on which his purchase of limestone is situated,

It was also resolved to re-instate the Ranger upon all the roads from I which he had been excluded with the exception of partofMountMun.ro j Road, and that he be instructed to exercise stricter supervision in future. Mr Tait wa6 authorized to get tho bridge on Jackson's road repainted. Instructions were given to get plans prepared for rebuilding Gundorson's bridge on the South Jlanriceville Road.

Mr IV. H. Fletcher, the successful tenderer for Contract No. 98, wailed on the Board with reference to an error he had made in estimating the ifork, he stated that he had only discovered his error after fixing his camp and getting part of tho materials on the ground. After hearing Mr Fletcher's statement, he was requested to withdrawwhilethe matter was considered, the result being that the Board was satisfied that the contractor had clearly made a mistake in bis calculations, but while sympathising with him in the position ho was placed in, it felt unable to meet him in any other way than byallowing himtosurrenderhis contract, so that fresh tenders may be invited. To this Mr Fletcher reluctantly consented, The following tenders were accepted for work on the C. Mangamahoe Road:—Contract 100.—'10 chains formation, Messrs Jackson and Brodersen, £110; Contract 101 —4O chains formation, O. Douch & Co, £96; Contract 102-40 chains formation, A, Palmor & Co,, £!08; Contract 103-11062 chains formation, J, B. Anderson, conditionally, £305. • '
