MASTERTON BOROUGH COUNCIL.
ORDINARY MEETING. The regular fortnightly meeting of the Mastertsn Borough Council was thcld last evening. Present, His Worship tho Mayor, and Crs Hcssey, Feist, Hughes, Hornblow, Mutrie, Wagg, Yates, Cullen, and Chamberlain. JIISBTKS. The minutes of the previous meeting wore rend and confirmed. COAI,. Mr S. Brown, on behalf of the West port-Cardiff Coal Company, wrol'i offering to supply the local Gas Works with coal, The letter was referred to the Gas Committee TYNIOID. I)r Douglas reported two more cases of typhoid fever, making six in all under treatment. ALTERATION'S. Mr D. Wilton wrote notifying the Cuuncil of his intention to make certain alterations to business premises in Queen-street. KIRK IXSI'ECTOR. Aii application was received askJk iiig that Captain C. K. Daniell, of '■& the Masterton Volunteer Fire Brigade, he appointed a Fire Inspector for the Borough. The application was granted. TDK WAli'Ol'A lllllUfili.
The Clerk to the Wairarapa North County Council ■wrote with reference to the Waipoua Bridge repairs, enclosing the County Engineer's report, as already summarised in our columns. The Mayor moved t and Cr Feist seconded that the explanation be received, The proper course of the petitioners would have been to have approached the County direct. Cr Cullen said when they were nskeil to contribute a share of the cost, it would be time to comment on the matter. Cr Hcssey was of opinion that a reliable opinion should be obtained as the to Borough's liability. He did not think any motion on the matter would be necessary. Finally it was resolved that the explanation be received. HAS lIEI'OHT. The Gas Committee's report was read aud adopted, and the recommendations ordered to be carried out. FOOTPATH. Cr Hughes asked if there were any hopes of the footpath in Church Street from Queen Street to Dixon Street being asphalted. The Mayor explained that the Town Lands Trust was only prepared to contribute one quarter of the cost, whereas the Borough required one half.

It was resolved that the Street WiduningCommitteeconsidertheadvisability of taking the land required in Perry Street, under the Public Works Act, and report at next meeting. *L On the motion of Cr Cullon the V Council then adjourned.
