CRICKET NOTES.

[llY lIA.MOCI.es.] Jlasterton play the I'Vatherston fifteen at Featherston on Saturday next It is to be hoped our local Club will send their strongestieum away, and if Jlasterton eanißwin the championship this season, • they * ought to run into second place. The JV.F.C.A. Club are endeavoring to get the Carterton ground to play the Featherston team to-mor-row. A matchbetweenthe Fire Brigades and the Excelsiors will occupy the Park Oval to-morrow. New South Wales beat South Australia by 111 runs, Olago defeated Canterbury by four wickets. Clark made 61 for the winners in the second innings. Mr W. R, Bone, the Secretary of the Jlasterton Club has sent the following communication to the Fca- y thcrslonClub, inreforence to playing Frith, who, if is asserted, is only a visitor to the district, in Association matches:—"To the Secretary Feathcrstou Cricket Club, Dear Sir,— 1 am directed to state that a protest will be entered by the Jlasterton Club against your playing Frith in ' any Association matches, on ttg understanding that ho is onlyjjjmporarity residing in Featherston.' My Club is not by any means indisposed to meet good cricketers, but is felt that as the matches are handicaps, it is not fair to tako advantage of tho services of an " expert," so to speak, who was not a member of the Wairampa Clubs at the lime the handicaps were made, and who is mora or less only a visitor to the district. The question, whether or not an outside player, who is well-known throughout the Colony as an exponent of cricket, can fairly be 4 included in any team playing an Association match is an important one, and this Club thinks ilbottorto bring it at once before the sub-com-mittee of the Association. A copy of this letter has been sent to the Association Secretary,—l am, etc., W. R. Bone."
