MASTERTON S.M. COURT.
JiETUMS FOR 1894. The returns of the Masterton S.M. Court, to December 31st, 1894, have just been completed by the Clerk of the Court, Mr F. H. Ibbetson, and show that (luring the year, 268 males ami 19 females were taken into custody, summoned, or apprehended on criminal charges. Of this number, 93 males and 3 females were summarily convicted; 53 persons were fined; 35 imprisoned in lieu of line; 13 (males) were committed for trial; 16 cases were dismissed on their merits, and 64 were discharged for want of prosecution or evidence, The offences were:—rape 1, attempted suicide 1, housebreaking 4, common assaults 3, assau't with intent 1, aiding and abetting (housebreaking) 3, sale of chattels under bill of sale 2, theft 43, uttering valueless cheques 3, wife desertion, 1, disobeying maintenance orders 8, breaches of By-laws !), failing to support 12, failing to register dogs 8, illegally impounding 1, procuring liquor for prohibited person 2, exposing liquor for sale during prohibited hours 1, refusing to quit licensed premises 1, cruelty to animals G, failing to send in sheep returns 1, falsifying sheep returns 1, failing to destroy rabbits 25, drunkenness and disorderly behaviour 74, illegally on premises G, threatening and abusive language 2, drunk while in charge of - a horse 1, inciting to resist lawful authority 1, resisting the police 1, obscene language 2, idle and (lis- ' orderly persons G, insulting words 1, assaulting a constable 1, throwing missiles 1, lunatics 17, wilful damage to property 2, foum} qn premises 1, , breach of tho peace 3, wandering ai largo (lunacy) 1, malicious injury i to property 10, i The Court granted, during the i year, 12 prohibition orders, and , dealt with ten female and seven malo i lunatics. tw .ujJiro, wo a j 6o i before the Court under the Adoption i of Children Act 1881,
