It seems astonishing that such c an enormous trade should be derived from such a commodity, but this only 1 shows how careful Hock-owners are now c to do all in their power to improvo the o fpmlity of their wool, aud Cooper's dip is undoubtedly J'mik jiriimps in this ii respect, s The .licv, A. The long-looked.for entertainment by the Mauriceville Minstrels, iu aid of the young man Thrupp, who is now in the Masterton Hospital, took place 0u Saturday evening last at Cottiss' Hall, over 180 visitors attending. All the items were well received, the piano music being supplied by Mr L, Cameron. The Secretary, Mrli. Complaints arc being mado by people who visit the Park on Sunday, of the crowds of boys who congregato under the trees playing cards, It is quito a usual sight to see a dozen of so parties camped under trees with cards in their hands. This growing evil should certainly ho put a stop to, and lads referred to should tako warning. The Borough of G-reytown is said to be feeling very sick over the Saturday half-holiday. Business at one o'clock folds up its tent like the Arab, and flies away towards Featherston, Carterton and Masterton. The not unnatural consequence is that the shopkeepers are looking down their noses, rents are on the decline, shop assistants are being reduced in numbers and wages, and the Borough Council, which put up the Saturday shutters in tlio interests of cricket, football, and other pastimes, is being emphatically prayed for by the wholo community.
