his not often that we catch, or desire to catch tripping, om esteemed ' friend the Rev. J. Dukes, but on the [ question of religion in schools ho has miulo a anions slip. Writing - to our local contemporary the other day, he says :-- 1 Itisstvaugclliiit the Maslorlon School Committee does not realise the gravity of the position. T)o they not see that the admission of any minister of re- . ligion for the purpose of imparting instruction to children, be he Wcslcyan, <t Presbyterian, or Anglican, deals a blow at the present, educational system ? The Committee need not fear an application from the Wcslcyan Church for a similar privilege to he extended as that conferred upon the licv. A. C. Yorkc—at least, so long as I am in charge here. ■i Now, on referiing to the minute book of the M.astorton School Committee we find under the date, Oct, In, 181)1, that a letter was read from - the Rev. Robert Wood on behalf of the Revs. Paige, Dukes and himself, stating they asked for half an hour a week to be taken from the regular School hours for a bible lesson. The Committee expressed its willingness at that time to give and actually did give to the reverend gentlemen pers mission to teach in the School outside ;. the regular School hours, but after >r consultation with the Board decided that it had not power to grant the ! request for a lesson within School hours.
