STEAMERS ICEBOUND IN THE. THAMES. &
THE GASCOYNE SAFE.
(Received, February 12,7 p.m.) London", February 11. The Sorpentine is covered with ice to the depth of Gin, and Loch Lomond is frozen nearly to the centre.
Information has been receivod, that the missing steamer, Gascoyne, has arrived at New York, (Received, February 13, 1.15 a.m.) ' Loxdox, February 12, Eighteen steamers are icebound in the Thames. Funds are being raised iu the provinces in aid of workmen who have been thrown out of employment, on account of the severe weather.
The Gascoyne broke her shaft, which accouuts for her long voyage. Mnny pedestrians in the streots of London, were so overcome by cold, that they fell exhausted, and were frozen to death. M Olio Coroner, in the East UnflT held inquests yesterday on 19 people who had met death in this way. ■
