(From Our Own Correspondent). , _ Friday. m A meeting of the Town Board was .Yield ou Monday evening last, Pre-sent-Commissioners Jas. Donald (chairmara), J. G. Cox, J. Cundy, W. Nicole, and W. Hodder, junr. An apology was received from Mr W, Benton for non-attendance through sickness. The Treasurer's statement shewed the amount of overdraftat the Bank of N.Z. as £sl Is lOd, Accounts ' amounting to £9lss 4dwero passed for payment. Permissiou was received from the Railway Department to use gravel out of tho old ballast pit. It was resolved that if arrears be not paid by the 7th inst., that tho lease of the Town Hall will be for. fe'ited and repossession taken. The Clerk was authorised to obtain a map of the Town District at 27s 6d. Tho Chairman stated that the Road Hoard has authorised its Engineer to lay' off tho Cemotery. After concluding the business of the Town Board, the Board resolved itself into the Domain Board. The Treasuror reported a credit balance of £l4 9s Bd, and rent dne £6, Acamounting to £13125, were ijlassed for payment. It was reported that good progress is being made with the grubbing of I briar and gorso, and that some of the fenco along Mr W. Donald's boundary, wanted seeing to. The Clerk was instructed to write to Mr Donald, andaßk him to repair the fence. The meeting then terminated. On Wednesday evening, tho usual monthly meeting of the School Committe was held. PresentMessrs J. G. Cox (Chairman), C. Kent-Johnstos, hon, sec, T. Worsley ; and W, Fry. The Treasurer's statement showed a credit balance of £2 7s Id. Accounts, amounting to £2l7s 6d, were passed for pay- : ment. The headmaster's report showed that the attendanco of Kbolars is still irregular, and tho Secretary wa« requested to issuo the schedules of the School Attendanco Act, preparatory to taking proceedings, A letter waß reReived from the Carterton School oKmrnittee suggesting Friday 22nd inst as the day for the school excursion and it was resolved to adopt whatever day they do. The Grey.town Committee wrote stating that they do not intend availing themselves of the excursion for the children. The' various candidates for seats on the Education.
