Sir Henry Parkes on the Premier's Conference.
(Received February 4, 11,30 a.m.) Sydney, February 5.
Sir Henry Parkes says he does not think the proposal of the Premier's Conference for a Convention is sorious, he considers it preposterous to talk about a mob of people making a Convention for a state, it is re. markable that only three Premieu wji-e agaed on tho question, andtha three who did agree aredistinguished for bidding low for support, and dodining instruction from wiser mon that themselves. They are threo wa;idering lawyers who have met to mako a constitution for all Australia. In disparagement of the Convention ho said that allthostatesmenolected for that purposo from all the parts of Australia, Mr Iteid, the Pramior of N. S. Wales, had proved hffeelf utterly incapable of understanding the functions of which he has undertaken tho charge, and is utterly unworthy o* support, He (Sir H. Parkes) does not want to return to office himself, hut he believes ho could bring tho Colonies into a substantial pormanent union, and that in a short time. He hi in favour of one straight broad courso, completing the work of tho fedeial convention of 1891.
Most of the members of the lato Dibbs Ministry strongly condemn the Premier's Conference as unauthorised and the schemo proposed as crude, ineffective and calculated to wreck Federation.
