THE ENGLISHMEN IN AUSTRALIA. Sydney, February 4, The weather is fine to-day and the sun hot, but it rained during the night and the pitch is baked on the surface, while thoroughly soaked underneath, and began cutting up as soon as play commenced, and sawdust was necessary from the jump. Stoddart prophecies the match will be all over to-day. The attendance is largo. (Received, February 4, 9 p.m.)

The Australians won the match by an innings and 147 runs. Tbo following aro the scores : AUSTRALIANS. Firstlnnings 284 englishmen.—First Innings. McLaren, st Jarvis, bH. Giffen considers thebest team won. He admits the wicket was bad, but does not think it was much worse than on Friday. The splendid fielding of the Australians counted for a a good deal. He is very sanguine of winning the final match, for which Blackham states it is intended to have the best team yot put in tho field, although there is general rejoicing in the Australian camp over such a victory, it is admitted thore might have been a different tale to tell had not Stoddart out-generalled himself by sending the Australians in first.
