At yesterday's Borough Council meeting tho Council constituted itself into a Committee to raise funds by private subscriptions for the purposes of making a further trial for artesian water, If successful they purpose securing a well-boring plant from Wanganui. Thursday has boon appointed the day for the statutory half-holiday. Constable Darby has been appointed Inspector of Slaughteri houses for the Borough of CarterI ton. | Mr H. Hickson, whilo on his way | to the Dalefield factory, jesterday, ! lost afull load of milk, through some of the harness breaking and the ! cart tipping up. I An inquest was held yesterday morning at Waiuuioru, before .Mr'l'. ( Hutchison, S.M., Coroner, and a jury of whom Mr G. Simpson was i foreman, touching the death of I Elizabeth Turner, aged 66 years, wife of James Turner, settler, who died suddenly about 5 o'clock on Sunday morning, A verdict was returned in accordance with the testimony of Dr Johnston, of death from heart disease.
