A DISGRACEFUL SCENE.
(By Telegraph—Press Association). CiiitiSTCiiiTCH, Monday. Reports in both morning papers state that a most disgraceful scene occurred at Mr McLachlan's (M.H.R,) meeting at South Rakaia on Friday night. Ii is declared unequivocally that the member for Asbburton was under the influence of liquor to such an extent that he was unable to deliver his speech. No arrangements had been made for a chairman, and after anunseemlyattack by MrMcLaohlan on a resident who said he would have presided had he been asked, one of the audieuce look the chair, but in plain terms told the member of his condition, and advised him to abandon the meeting. Mr McLacblan elected to go on, however, but after an unsuccessful attempt to commence his speech, gave in, and the audience, among whom were many ladies, left the hall, I he scene terminal ing by the member falling off the stage.
