By Telegraph—Own Correspondent, Pahiatua, Tuesday. The Gourlays played "libra last night to a crowded house. The election of a councillor to fill the vacancy in the West Ward caused by the election of Councillor Vileas Mayor, takesplnco to-morrow, the candidates are Messrs Crewe andF.W.B.Greville. The election is generally considered as likely to result in the favor of the foflner. A meeting of busiuess people and shop assistants was held last night, when it was decided to requost tho Council to fix on Wednesday afternoon as statutory half holiday. The Borough Council met last night, the business done being unimportant. An auctioneer's license was granted to D, Crewe. Mr W. Redmond, who has long been a resident of Pnhiatua, left yesterday to enter into the occupation of the Star Hotel at Mastertou. Mr Redmond is much respected here The Horticultural Society's annual show takes place on Friday evening next.
