An apprehension is expressed by Mr Hogg's friends lest he should bo removed from the Land Board in consequence of the attitude he has taken against Mr Commissioner Baker. As far as we are able to judge the Minister of Lauds would play straight into the hands of Mr | Hogg and his friends if he refused to reappoint the member for Masterton. Mr Hogg, as a martyr, would, we venture to say, come out very strong, indeed he could almost turn the country against the Government. Tho Government will think twice before it refuses to re-appoint Mr Hogg, and if the Minister of Lands be obstinate enough to take his own way and sit on the member for Masterton, we shall be disposed to congratulate Mr Hogg and to condole with Mr McKenzie,
Tnii Town Lands Trust at a meeting held on December sth last passed the following resoltion:"That the Trust having no fixed arrangement with any solicitor for tho preparation of leases, is consequently unable to offer any redress, the charges having been referred to the Taxing Officer aud found reasonable." Their attention was then called to tho following resolution passed by them on April sth, 1889: . " The Secretary was instructed to inform Mr Bunny, that the arrangement with the trustees and himself was that the charge for drawing up Town Lands leases should be two guineas." To this they reply—- " That after having duly considered tho matter they cannot interfere with their previous resolution." Is comment necessary ? i ■ ■"-—" i
